In mycology, coarse vermiculite is the gold standard for creating moisture-retentive substrate mixes (such as the classic PF Tek recipe) and protective casing layers that shield delicate mycelium from drying out. In gardening, it prevents soil compaction and provides a steady supply of moisture to plant roots.

How to Use
Mushroom Substrate (PF Tek): Mix coarse vermiculite with brown rice flour (BRF) and water at a 2:1:1 volume ratio before loading into jars and sterilising.
Casing Layer: Lightly mist hydrated vermiculite and spread a thin layer (0.5 cm−1 cm) over fully colonised bulk substrate to maintain ideal surface microclimates.
Gardening & Potting Mix: Mix 10%–25% by volume into standard potting soil or seed-starting mixes to enhance water retention and root expansion.
