Maxisoy Plus Fibre Pellets 20kg

A$42.00

Maxisoy Plus Fibre Pellets are a high-quality, 100% soybean hull product, widely recognised as the "gold standard" nitrogen supplement for gourmet mushroom cultivation . While originally formulated as a low-starch, high-fibre feed for horses, these pellets have been adopted by mycologists as the ideal component for Master's Mix.

Why use Maxisoy Plus for Mushrooms?

  • Optimised for Master's Mix: When combined with hardwood pellets at a 50/50 ratio, it creates a nutrient-rich substrate that gourmet species like Oyster and Shiitake love .

  • High Protein & Nutrition: The soy hulls provide essential amino acids (Lysine) and nutrients that fuel rapid, healthy mycelial growth and result in higher yields compared to plain sawdust .

  • Easy to Handle: The pelleted form is clean, dust-free, and allows for precise measuring (by weight) when mixing bulk substrate.

  • Rapid Hydration: The pellets break down quickly when soaked, requiring less prep time than raw soy hulls.

Note: This product is made from 100% soy hulls with no added molasses, making it safe and effective for mycology use .

How to Use: Preparing Master's Mix

The Formula (by weight):

  • 50% Hardwood Pellets (fuel pellets or BBQ pellets without additives)

  • 50% Maxisoy Plus Fibre Pellets

  • Water (60-65% to reach field capacity)

Instructions

Step 1: Measure Dry Ingredients

  • Weigh out equal parts of hardwood pellets and Maxisoy Plus pellets. Example: For a standard 5kg block, mix 2.5kg hardwood + 2.5kg Maxisoy.

Step 2: Hydrate

  • Place pellets in a large mixing tub or 55-gallon drum.

  • Add water gradually. Important: These pellets will swell significantly (up to 5x their dry volume), so use a container much larger than you think you need .

  • For a standard 5kg dry mix, you will need roughly 11–13 liters of water to reach "field capacity" (where you can squeeze a few drops of water from the substrate but not a stream).

Step 3: Mix & Wait

  • Stir the mixture thoroughly immediately after adding water to ensure even saturation.

  • Let the mixture sit for 30 to 60 minutes. The pellets will break down into a wet mash .

  • Stir again, breaking up any dry clumps in the center. The texture should be uniform, fluffy, and moist.

Step 4: Check Field Capacity

  • Grab a handful and squeeze tightly. You should see 2-5 drops of water seep between your fingers. If water streams out, it is too wet; add a handful of dry pellets to absorb excess moisture.

Step 5: Bag and Sterilize

  • Load the wet substrate into polypropylene mushroom grow bags.

  • Sterilise at 15 PSI (121°C) for 2.5 hours (adjust time based on bag size, typically 2.5-3 hours for 2.26796kg (5lb) blocks).

Tips for Success

Aspect

Recommendation

Source

Purchase from an equine/feed store (often cheaper than mycology suppliers) .

Storage

Store in a dry, sealed container. If exposed to humidity, the pellets will absorb moisture and expand.

Don't forget

Maximizing yield with high nutrition increases contamination risk; strict sterilization is mandatory for Master's Mix.
